East Midlands Ambulance Service

East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS) provides the usual 999, urgent care and Patient Transport services (PTS) that all ambulance services provide. Its main catchment area is Derbyshire, Leicestershire, Rutland, Northamptonshire, Nottinghamshire and both North and East Lincolnshire.

EMAS employs around 3200 staff in 76 locations which includes 2 control rooms,

EMAS answers around 700,00 emergency calls every year, and completes 5000 journeys every day using its PTS and voluntary car drivers.

EMAS employs ECA’s and Paramedics

After the Agenda for change terms and conditions were implemented in 2004, EMAS technicians appealed the pay banding level for which they were set, this process has now finished for the technicians in the Lincoln division and it was deemed appropriate that they stay at Pay Band 4. It is unsure if they will take further action on this.

Because of the way the NHS spends money ambulance services have to bid for contracts along with private providers. At the moment private providers are only going after Patient Trainsport Service (PTS) contracts, EMAS recently lost 5 contracts over its area, EMAS submitted an appeal which wasn’t successful . EMAS will hand over the roles and the transfer will take place as of the 1st July 2012.
